Dear james,
  Do you mean that you have an NAT-ed LAN client with a outside Internet
client? If so, I think you can try the default proxy.ini and have a look.
Also, to my own favour, I use ohphone/openphone instead of gnomenetmeeting.
As times before I used to stick on netmeeting but something goes wrong with
my Planet IP Phone. But once I tried openphone two clients (as same as your
case - 1 NATed and 1 outside) work great!
