RE: Gateway Gatekeeper Registration Process

Hi Andrew,

An endpoint in this case is either a terminal, gateway, gatekeeper or mcu.
So basically it depends how you want to do this. If you want to setup all your endpoints
to use RAS, then all your endpoints must register to the gatekeeper. In this case your Cisco 5300
must register to your gatekeeper, problem with this is that if this is not your gateway, some providers
will not want to register it to your gatekeeper, because chances are they have already register it with their
own gatekeeper which controls their own zone. Therefore, you must set the Cisco 5300 as a PermanentEndpoint endpoint in the configuration file.

Example:
[RasSrv::PermanentEndpoints]
123.123.123.123=gw5300;8888

[RasSrv::RewriteE164]
21232=8888

However, if your carrier does allow you to register to your gatekeeper, then it will register with an
alias to the gatekeeper. Your ATAs will then be able to send calls to your cisco 5300. What i'm not sure about
in this case is whether one of your register endpoints(ATAs) can route the call to your cisco 5300 by alias only with out using
an E.164 number. I know that if its a terminal, you can do it by alias, but i haven't tested whether you can route to a gateway
by using an alias. Anyone know if this is possible?

Example:
[RasSrv::GWPrefixes]
gw5300=8888

[RasSrv::RewriteE164]
xxxxx=xxxx

In this case assumming your cisco 5300 registered to the gatekeeper with an alias of gw5300, all calls will be
routed to this gateway starting with prefix 8888 for an E.164 number.

Freddy

Freddy, thank you for your response.
When I say gateway I mean a Cisco 5300 for instance and not an endpoint. I
read the whole manual and I think it is not complete with regard to the
gateway registration/alias atribution with the gatekeeper.
I have 4 ATA boxes conected to the gatekeeper. I have a Cisco 5300 located
in a carrier. How can direct the calls from the ATAs to the 5300 ?
As far as I understood, I need to make the 5300 register itself to the GK,
right ? And then use the alias provided by the 5300 to the GK, right ?
I want to understand how this registration process works.

Thanks again
Andrew
