GNUGK.EXE is not implemented as a service process under Windows. There are
however several tools available - do a google search, or you can write your
own simple windows service process and spawn gnugk as a child process. The
service process can monitor the status port and send commands such as
'shutdown' and wait for the child process to exit. The gk itself would need
some minor modifications to handle:
CTRL_LOGOFF_EVENT
CTRL_CLOSE_EVENT
CTRL_C_EVENT
CTRL_SHUTDOWN_EVENT
 in WinCtrlHandlerProc().
