Did you use configure utility? You can type 'configure --help'
and see what build options are available to you. The idea
of configure utility is (among other things) to make feature selection
easy, so you do not have to remember hundreds of options to make.

Just run:
configure --with-large-fdset
make optdepend
make optnoshared

and you will have gk with large-fdset enabled (and reported through the status line).
