RE: [Openh323gk-users] Performance of Proxy mode (bis)

Hello,

We are not even speaking here of encoding and/or decoding packets. We just
wonder how much simultaneous calls could get through gnugk with proxy mode
enabled. Dont forget each and every packets have to be opened, checked,
modified and resent (i'm speaking of the RTP packets)

I believe it more is related to Kernel performances. I know some
manufacturers (ie: Audiocodes) are now using onboard RTP decoders at
ethernet level to allow for a massive amount of packet per seconds to hit
the machine without killing it at kernel level. You got to imagine that each
packet that hits the machine means that an (hardware?) interruption is
generated, and that the whole processor gets "halted" for the interruption
to be handled (that's right eh?).

The original question could use an answer really. I believe the previously
mentionned configuration can barely handle a few hundred simultaneous
proxy'ed calls.. i wouldnt even bet on the fact that multi-proc would help.
While the exact same configuration could handle thousandSSSS of calls in
non-proxy mode.

Gilles.

	Hi,

I do not think that codec complexity could be an issue since gnugk in
proxy mode does not encode/decode voice streams, it just forwards encoded
packets.

Hi!

I think I have read on this earlier on the list. Something about which codec
that where used and if the gk has to proxy the calls.

Please, check the archive.

i got the very same question

we run GnuGK on a Xeon 2.4ghz + Linux AS 2.1 and we would like to know how
many concurent calls we could get in proxy mode without hitting the roof.

i guess the problem here mainly is the number of interruptions (at kernel
level) that is generated .. but still, i dont know how many simultaneous
calls it means.

Hello there,
early I tried to ask about GnuGk performance but got no answers,
now I need it really:

How much Calls may I get with GNUGk in Proxy mode?

About Route mode with H.245 I know, but we need use ONLY proxy mode.

Or it will be better to use SoftSwitch?

Thank you in advance,
oleg
