The machine has IPv6 support, it provides ipv6 tunnel to a LAN of machines
via tunnel from BT exact.

I thought it would make sense to get that working before I tried to compile
applications to use it

Hi!

Perhaps, ipv6 support is not enabled in your system. I can't see any ipv6
interfaces...
