excessive memory use with SSL socket

Hi,

I have a kind of vague question, sorry it's not more precise.
I'm hoping someone might be able to comment anyway.

I am working with a program which can use ordinary sockets
or SSL sockets. The program is a server. When a client
connects with an ordinary socket, memory use increases by
a few megabytes. When a client connects with an SSL socket,
memory use increase by about 35 megabytes. The difference
is enough to crash the program; it's running on small device.

The platform in question is an ARM cpu. I am using Classpath 0.98
plus JamVM 1.5.2.

I wonder if anyone else has used SSL sockets with Classpath
on any platform. Have you noticed any unusual memory use?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this problem.
