Generics Branch Merge Announcement (0.93 to generics-mergepoint)

Hi all,

The generics branch now contains code committed between the 0.93 branch point and the
generics mergepoint created this morning.  I'll now begin the merge of the result
back to HEAD.

Please don't commit until this is complete.
