OK, I've done this. The generics-branch now contains a new JSSE
provider, the new javax/net/ssl classes and changes to existing ones,
and a few little additions for 1.5 support in security and crypto.

You shouldn't be able to tell the difference, if you use URLConnection
with https URLs, or are using SSLSocket directly. If you think you spot
any bugs, though, please let me know about them!
