Jini (www.jini.org) is already since a year under the Apache License 2.0 But now it is part of the Apache project and in the incubator: http://lists.cs.ucsb.edu/pipermail/cs290b-java/2006-May/000043.html Greatings theuserbl Here the text he have written: ---------------------------------------------------------------- There was much discussion (and, good, I might add) on all sorts of 'Opinions and direction' on what "Jini" is, the packaging of the starter kit, need for a platform definition, how JERI fits in, and some historical recounts on how we got here on the list in recent weeks. The discussion was great, but did not seem to consolidate into an alternative idea to proposing the Jini Technology Starter Kit to Apache. Given that, we've been working on a Proposal to Apache which includes: - the Jini Technology Starter Kit - the QA Tests (associated with the starter kit) - Service UI implementation I think Service UI has reached an acceptance and use level (along with being a Jini Community Standard) that it seems natural to include it in the initial Proposal (and, Bill Venners was very supportive of the idea). We view the "initial source" identified for the proposed Apache project as a starting place. As ideas emerge and more people get involved, the structure and contents of the project are sure to evolve. The draft Proposal (html) is attached for your review. You'll notice that we do now have an Apache Sponsor :-) (a critical step) and are getting ready to make the formal Proposal. So... if you have any comments or questions, or want to raise a "-1" (in the Apache style ;-)), please do so soon. thanks -Jim
