Hello, sorry but I think you got me wrong. We have about twenty different printers of different brands, that doesn't matter. They are all connected to the network and set up and shared via a centralized CUPS server. They show up in the settings window just fine, and they print just fine, too. The problem is that users cannot select the option "Use this as the default printer" because it is grayed out. They would need admin rights to do that, which isn't possible in a corporate network. It is also not necessary, as it works on the command line just fine, without being admin. But of course command line is not a good option for the average end user.
