Trouble configuring synaptics touchpad while running gnome2

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

System information:
Linux Mint 11/Ubuntu Natty hybrid
Clevo W150HN (Sager Branded)
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package version 1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu12.1
gnome package version 1:2.30+7ubuntu3

Default behavior I'm seeking:
One fingered tap sends left mouse click
Two fingered tap sends middle mouse click
Three fingered tap sends right mouse click

Current behavior:
One fingered tap sends left mouse click
Two fingered tap sends right mouse click
Three fingered tap sends middle mouse click

Steps I've taken so far:
I can get this behavior by running the following after gnome loads:
$ synclient "TapButton2"="2" "TapButton3"="3"

I have tried running this as a part of the gnome "Startup Applications," both directly, and as a part of a shell script, but this does not affect the behavior at all.  I have also tried going to Control Center->Mouse->Touchpad and unchecking "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad."

This eliminates all click-on-tap functionality.

Apparently what is happening is that gnome is sending a complete configuration to synaptics sometime after it loads the "Startup Applications."  Presumably the config file exists in an undocumented location on my system, and if I could edit that directly, I could have gnome send a different configuration, but I have been unable to find that.

I am also open to other suggestions, but having to run a configuration program by hand every time I reload gnome is not acceptable behavior.

Thanks,
Davi Rios
