GNOME-Camp get together San Francisco 4-5th April 2011, next week? - Fwd: [BALUG-Talk] GNOME & KDE Announcements - Re: Fwd: Invitation to CampKDE ; gre

Hi GNOME people. :)

Just a quick alert to you all that you might want to organize a GNOME
get together in San Francisco next week, parallel to the CampKDE event
4-5th April, just before the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit,
which takes place April 6-8, 2011.

I'm a long time KDE user, & am thinking that the opportunity for GNOME &
KDE enthusiasts to get together & share ideas would likely lead to
better GNU(Linux) sw for everyone.

Any GNOME people care to make that happen?

If you do organize a meeting, you ought to email the local Bay Area
LUGs, to alert local people who aren't on this GNOME email list.

ex: BALUG, SF-LUG, PenLUG, LUGOD, NBLUG, SVLUG, SacLUG, & NoiseBridge.

Maybe some Southern California groups too:

ex: UUASC, SCLUG, OCLUG, San Diego KernelPanic

Best wishes. :)

CampKDE ; gre

Hi Guillermo, Michael, BALUG. :)

0) Thanks, Michael, for your usual excellent job of being on top of
keeping things moving forward. :)

If Guillermo replies to the BALUG list (as I hope he does), will you
please forward that through to the list, if he isn't subscribed?
Thanks. :)

1) To Guillermo Amaral:

1a) Thanks for this announcement. The KDE event here in SanFran should
enable both the KDE project, & people here in the Bay area interested in
KDE, to make progress. :)

1b) You also might want to notify SF-LUG sf-lug@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, the
other large SF Linux group. And, maybe the Linux people at NoiseBridge
in SF.

==
Here's the two main reasons I'm sending this message to you, Guillermo:

2) I searched my KDE mailing list [kde@xxxxxxxxxxxx] going back a few
years, & no mention of "CampKDE" there.

It would seem to be a great idea to send the announcement about the
SFran event to that list ASAP! Shouldn't that be the main place to let
people know about the event, early enough for them to schedule it into
their calendars?

The fact that no CampKDE stuff has been on that list probably means the
KDE community is missing out on awareness about this, & thus missing out
on the progress of having more people attend.

Why didn't it get announced there? - I'm very curious to know. [Point
being - something valuable to do.]

3) GNOME

Though I don't use GNOME, greatly preferring KDE for maybe 10 years, I
think it would be best for the entire GNU(Linux) community if GNOME
people were to have a meeting simultaneously in SFran, when the KDE
people are there. - More communication between the groups means maybe
better sw for everyone.

Have the GNOME people been alerted to this KDE event, & invited to have
a meeting there simultaneously?

I see at www.gnome.org that April 6 is GNOME 3.0 release. They've got
other events happening in India just before this (hackfest), & are
organizing release parties, so it would seem they should welcome the
opportunity to have a meeting in SF to work on stuff, & meet their
friendly desktop "competitors" (KDE people).

If it is too late, or expensive, for them to schedule something at the
Hotel Kabuki, there is still a great opportunity for them to get
together for free at one of the many restaurants right next door to the
hotel in SF's "Japan town" mall. I'm sure the restaurants would gladly
welcome the GNOME people & provide free space for them to meet, since it
might be some more $ business for them on an otherwise unbusy weekday.
(There is a large underground parking lot right below the mall.)

And, then the KDE & GNOME people could have an opportunity for some
interesting communication. :)

4) To Any GNOME Community Members:

You might want to forward this message to the relevant GNOME mailing
lists, in order to try to get the GNOME people to see if they can get a
GNOME meeting going alongside CampKDE in SF, April 4-5, 2011.

I'll forward this message to gnome-list@xxxxxxxxx once it comes
through the BALUG list. But, that's all I've got time for.

Best wishes, everyone. :)
