If this is so wonderful why won't UBUNTU connect to my wireless router?
I've been using Windows for 14 years and never run into such a PITA ! What
am I doing wrong. Even many UBUNTU users says "Network Manager S**ks".
Thanks,
Jack

You need to be careful to distinguish between what is the gnome role and
what is the system / Ubuntu part.
To answer you question directly, though, the reason I use the PWP of
Mandriva and do pay an annual subscription to Mandriva is exactly for
this reason.
Ubuntu is totally open source and therefore may not include the Wi-Fi
firmware which is what you are seeking. Yes you can certainly find the
firmware and drivers etc on the internet but, Ubuntu cannot include
anything which is proprietary in this way. Mandriva PWP which I use for
so many machines, contains quite a lot of proprietary software for my
convenience.
In your case if you are using a recent version of Ubuntu then your Wi-Fi
will be known to it (kernel) but, you will still some firmware.
And as for the comment
"Network
Manager S**ks".
Sorry, he does need to understand the principles of open source.
Regards.
