MissionControl 4 gets the https proxy from gconf (as set in gnomes proxy settings) and enabled those on the CM automagically if they support it. Specifically gabble (the XMPP backend) supports https proxies, so that should work fine. This might ofcourse be buggy (most of us aren't on networks with proxies so it's not really well-tested). If it is, please do file a bug.
