Clearly, no. Indeed, and the comments to that blog are much more informative than the blog itself. As the last comment points out, if you are on a Red-Hat-flavoured system then simply "export TERM=xterm1" will work. Otherwise, the "right" way to go about this is to decompile the terminal description, edit it, and recompile, as noted in the penultimate comment. Another way of disabling the alternate screen is to run "screen" inside every terminal.
