Hmm, there was a bug in that directory's Makefile.am that we only
spotted and fixed in the 2.17 timeframe-- might be causing that error, I
guess (although it built fine here, which is why I never noticed it for
so long).

If you open
gnome-themes-2.13.2/LowContrastLargePrint/icons/48x48/apps/Makefile.am,
you'll probably see there's a missing backslash at the end of the line
'gnome-remote-desktop.png'.  Add it back in (preceded by a space),
re-configure and see how it goes...
