Hello, The following is my own opinion, and I don't belong to the Gnome team! For about 6-7 years, I'm writing Linux programs. I do it either for myself, in my work, and for a small community.Linux (and AFAIK other Unix-like systems) was written in C. Such a system is built with only one compiler (in linux it's gcc's C compiler). When you build program with another compiler (even if it's gcc's C# compiler, if it exists), it MAY be a bit slower to communicate with other programs. I cannot stress enough: it MAY, so it's not necessary.The other thing is when you write a program in C, and it works, then you shouldn't change it. When you decide to write it in another language, you have to write the whole thing again in the other language. So my idea (to serve both you, and everyone else) is to stay with C from the Gnome-guys, and write a C# binding for it (if it doesn't exist yet), so developers can write Gnome-applications in C#.
