thanks for the hint. Isn't it a new feature?

Does anybody also experienced that 2.7.3 is even slower
than its predecessors?

In fact the disappointing gnome-terminal isn't a problem for me.

I don't like that bloated "kterminal" style terminals at all!

I'm running aterm under gnome. It's very fast. However there
is no future for aterm and certainly also wterm. I wonder why
aterms code for transparency etc. isn't simply copied into
gnome-terminals.
