dear Stephen,

first check wether gnome is there or not,while you upgraded wether it
also got updated? check the version. so do 

rpm -qa | grep gnome

next check which is your default Windo manager do 

cat /etc/sysconfig/desktop

hope this will help you out to get the thing corrected.
