Alternatively, as with almost all new laptops, the machine is ACPI, and
ACPI isn't enabled.  I don't think any of the major distros enable ACPI
by default due to how broken it still is.  On Fedora Core, you can add
acpi=on the kernel boot parameters in /etc/grub.conf.
