Yes, that is a similar problem to mine, but not the same. In my case, I can confirm that esd is not running at the time I log in. But the second bonobo-activa starts up, GNOME hangs. It won't get beyond bonobo-activa until I delete /tmp/.esd/socket, weird as that sounds.
