I guess you should do a right-click on the bottom panel. Select Properties
and then check [X] Expand.
With my gnome24 turning Expand off results in a panel length of only
necessary size i.e. all space on the panel that is not used will be cut off
and everthing will be centered.
Turning it on results in a panel that covers the whole width of the screen.
