       I remember we had one user in Redhat who wanted to do the
        same procedure on his production workload with 3.8.x upstream
        bits and it worked fine. I forget which version it was. Ravi, do
        you remember?
    
    Looks like 3.8.0 contains the CLI to convert replica 2 to
      arbiter: http://review.gluster.org/14502

      Increasing replica count doesn't trigger rebalance. Self-heal
      daemon will automatically sync the metadata to the arbiter brick
      after you add it.
