Gluster nodes on the same network as clients?

Hello,

Should the gluster nodes be all located on the same network or subnet as their clients in order to get the best performances?

I am currently using Gluster 3.7.11 with a 2 nodes replica for cloud storage and mounting on the clients withe the native glusterfs protocol (mount -t glusterfs) and my nodes are currently located on an internal network as I was trying not to waste any IPv4 addresses and the clients are on a public IP range. But now I noticed that if I have also an internal client on the same network performance is around 4 times better. In between the two networks there is a firewall but between these two networks there are no special rules, everything is allowed.

Any comments on that?

Regards
ML
