There are key kernel bug fixes and things that significantly help gluster run
properly, especially in areas like FUSE and the IO stack.
In general, the more modern the kernel, the better the chance that you have all
of those fixes in.
A side note on commercial versions of linux is that the kernel version number
(3.10 in the example) is not really indicative of what fixes might have been
backported to that kernel. Commercial linux vendors like Red Hat and Suse, etc,
all work to chase down the critical issues and get them out even on older kernel
versions. Best to check with the vendor in those cases.
