Snapshotting GlusterFS on ZFS

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

I'm aware that some work/research is being done on enabling integrated snapshotting for GlusterFS volumes on ZFS, but in the interim, would the following work, at least for backup purposes (not for production data)?

1. ZFS Snapshot all bricks on all servers
2. Use gluster volume create --force to create a new volume from the snapshot mounts
3. Mount and backup the new volume
4. Umount and remove the volume
5. Destroy the ZFS snapshots.

Would really like to know if this is at least possible and if so, any caveats - one I can think of it making sure the snaps on each brick happen as close in time as possible (ie within a few milliseconds, at a time when writes are very unlikely).

Would really love to see native ZFS support in GlusterFS as it adds compression, dedupe and correction of silent corruption with no extra effort.

Thanks,

Alex
