Setting up geo-replication with existing data on both ends

I'm looking to set up cascading geo-rep across 3 datacentres and I have nearly 2TB to start with.  To avoid incurring insane bandwidth overage fees transfering all that data from one DC to the next to the next, I'd like to place the data directly on each server from an external HDD to start and then enable geo-replication to keep the data in sync.  Will this work?  Is there process for setting up geo-replication between volumes that already contain data?

Thanks,
Peter
