Re: mixing gluster versions / old version availability

Technically, (IIRC) a client of any GlusterFS 3.x version should be able to communicate with any GlusterFS 3.x servers, and provide basic operation. There would be inconsistencies between different major versions, but nothing too big.
Most of GlusterFS's logic is client side. Any bug fixes done in newer versions of GlusterFS will not be available when using older clients. So it is recommended to run the latest GlusterFS version on the clients.

Cool, thanks, that's handy info.

What's the situation with mixing versions between client and server? For
example I've just noticed that we're using glusterfs 3.4.0.59rhs on some
clients (came with CentOS7) to talk to servers running 3.6.2. Is that
considered OK, or would it be better to upgrade the clients to the one
from the gluster repo?

Cheers,
Kingsley.
