Primarily needed to pick the right gluster volume (from a list of pre-created ones) using 'volume size' as the weight/selector/criteria.

The feature page has openstack usecase, need for the feature and more.

Primarily its needed to query if snapshot is supported or not , but generically it can be seen as an ability to support querying for glusterfs capabilities.
