It does look like a connection has been established but qemu-img is blocked on something. Can you please start qemu-img with strace -f and capture the output?
Sure. I have added two new files to the gist:
One is strace using the "root" user, so the command is successful. The other is using the "libvirt" user. I eventually ctrl-c'd that strace.
Let me know if I can collect any more info for you.
