Personally, I'm not sure if upgrading a daemon should or shouldn't be killing the running (older) one. Can think of pro's and con's each way. ;) With the part of your BZ about this error message: error reading information on service glusterfsd: No such file or directory Fairly sure that error message (not the daemon killing) is caused by a missing /etc/init.d/glusterfsd.
