Glusterd holds a cluster wide lock before performing any volume operation requested by cli (excluding 'volume info'). This lock is supposed to be released at the end of the given operation, whether the operation succeeded or not, but it appears that it hasn't in your case. But I don't think you've encountered the bug (843003) mentioned.
