I think the question is why there's a single init.d script that starts or
shuts down both daemon and client at once. So if you have a server which is
also acting as a client, and you want to shut down the server side of it,
but keep the client running, and you go to stop the gluster server with the
init.d script, doesn't that have the side effect of shutting down the client
too? The client, after all, can be involved in fuse mounting a remote system
with no necessarly relationship to gluster storage physically on the local
system.

With most software with both server and client components, there's a
separate init.d script for each.
