There may be books on storage system design and maintenance, but quite likely they are not targeted at these types of systems, so their suggestions might be not as helpful. Your best bet is to a) ask questions on these topics b) hire people who know what they are doing For point "b", the Gluster partner Cambridge is one of the better outfits.
