There is little to read up on this.  Some of it is "common sense", some 
is experience.  There may be books on storage system design and 
maintenance, but quite likely they are not targeted at these types of 
systems, so their suggestions might be not as helpful.

Your best bet is to

a) ask questions on these topics

b) hire people who know what they are doing

For point "b", the Gluster partner Cambridge is one of the better 
outfits.  You can always hire other folks/companies; they will have 
their own agendas that you should be aware of beforehand.  Everyone 
will.  Caveat Emptor and all that.
