Such options can be set "online":

gluster volume set w-vol performance.cache-size 2048MB


But I noticed the gluster client will only "notice" them in the logfile 
(or, gluster client process will start using ~2GB RAM, as expected, with 
the above cache option set to 2 GB) if it is unmounted/mounted.

So:

umount /mnt/gluster
mount /mnt/gluster


Again, please someone correct me if it's needed, as pointed by Papp, 
documentation seems to suggest is not needed:


	You can set volume options, as needed, while the cluster is
	online and available. "
