Meanwhile, any more details, besides the install, that you think would help set this up in least amount of time would be helpful, like, how to crank the incoming user rate etc. Such help will enable us to focus more on the file system rather than setting up the the application load. I've got two Apache nodes load-balanced using glusterfs as their php sessions store plus shared data (temp files, misc app data) with the sessions store being the hard-hit service. When I crank up the incoming user rate, (causing new sessions to be created and then read), things get wonky as explained before.
