Currently there is no way to build only the Gluster client part. This is
a limitation in the autoconf/automake scripts. The server-side requires
fancy things that are not available (in the required versions) for
different parts (mainly GlusterD?).

Once we have a "./configre --without-server" or similar, there is no use
in trying to build for RHEL/CentOS-5.
