Thank you for that excellent and very detailed reply.

I was considering putting entries into /etc/hosts on the clients for
reliability reasons ... I've found over the years with web sites using
DNS to resolve a MySQL host, occasional glitches in name resolution
caused occasional connectivity failures - an issue that I've solved by
putting entries into /etc/hosts on the client.

I don't know how often gluster clients perform DNS lookups, but it will
be interesting to see what others say about this.
