You can have two kind of tests: one set that is short and run
indivdually for each patch, and the other that is much longer, and runs
master branch contiously with a bunch of new patches each tilme.

FWIW, the NetBSD project only has the second set, since just a full
build of 6 M LoC (which you need before starting regression tests) takes
more than a hour, and we have more than 24 commits each day.

That second set could include very long tests, which catch bugs that do
not show immediatly (memory leaks, race conditions...)
