  I tried re-creating the issue on master. It gives ENOTCONN as expected. Could you let me know on which version you get EAGAIN?.
[root@pranithk-laptop r2]# touch a

[root@pranithk-laptop r2]# unlink a
unlink: cannot unlink `a': Transport endpoint is not connected
