Yes, same experience here, VMware is very good about VM->host networking. I had lots of trouble doing the same thing with Xen, though I did eventually make it work.

Agreed. I've done some preliminary testing with FUSE on Virtuozzo (which
seems similar to VServer) and have not had much succes.

When I started my GlusterFS tests, I started on VMware Virtual machines
and they work perfectly.
