I tried a similar setup on my machine, it seemed to work fine.

start glusterfsd on server1 with "-l /tmp/log -L DEBUG"

cat the file.txt

kill glustersd on server2.

cat the file.txt

Now you should get i/o error.

Mail back the log file.
