I think such a change in semantics merits a new option.  Maybe 
even something like

	"--rewrite-tags=(strip-signatures|redo-signatures|no-signed)"

or some such.  But maybe not; to rewrite a tag, you have to specify it 
explicitely (or implicitely with --all).
