The workaround, so far as I know, is to hit ^C and do it again; the second 
time it will fetch 1 object (the actual tag) instead of 700000. If that's 
not the case, I'm even more confused about what's going on. And if you 
notice Linux tagging something before you pull, it would be great if you 
could capture the contents of .git/refs/ before you pull and send it to me 
if it does this.
