I fail to see how the mechanism work then. You said that I needed to add the .gitignore before adding all the other bummer stuff, fair enough. AFAIK .git/info/exclude doesn't need to be added, it's just there. But you can try to change the test, add the .git/info/exclude *first* and then make a commit and then add all the bummer stuff and then commit, and finally, do a git-status, for me it still takes 9s.
