That being said, I do find it somewhat sad that we have reftable bits in Junio's tree that don't appear to be progressing all that much. So as much as I would like to see us have fewer reference backends, I'd rather see whatever the "next-gen" backend be have good support and momentum, even if that means carrying more code.
