I don't think it makes sense for sparsity patterns to affect either. sparsity patterns are a way of splitting "tracked" files into two subsets (those matching the sparsity paths and those that don't). Therefore, flags that are about searching things that aren't tracked, clearly don't have anything to do with sparsity patterns.
