Interesting. We currently have similar performance issues when pushing to a Git repo hosted on Gerrit. The only difference of our repo compared to others on the same server that do not have any performance issues is the large number of refs (about 40k) in refs/changes.

I still wonder why that would slow down a push as we have not configured our clients to fetch / push refs/changes.
