After all, it's just outdated and heavily patched cygwin. There exists msys2 project (much less outdated and much less patched cygwin). See mingwGitDevEnv [2] (by msysgit developer). 2) I only used msys due to my unawareness of msys2 at the time of initial WinGit hacking.
